My 944 has been pretty good to me, don’t get me wrong, but I still want a 911. And I had a moment where I decided tonight I’m just going to save as many goddamn dollars as I can until I have a 996.

Unless of course, the big fella up there decides to forsake me and make some sort of weird market dumbness happen where I can no longer get a 996 with 75,000 miles for not much over $15,000.

I just scanned the Canadian market and you can still find clean 996 C2's for around 15-18,000 CDN which works out to 12-14,500 USD due to your current high dollar.

Food for thought.

I want one too. I’ve been casually browsing Rennlist and other forums for ones with problems for under 10k. I don’t really care if the M96 shits the sheets because I want to drop in my LS1 when my Camaro goes under the knife for a turbo build. I’ve researched the swaps and it’s pretty straightforward. I’m no purist so LSX FTW! My only criteria is clean title, manual trans and pleeeease no tan interior.

Interesting, good to know. It would be the type of purchase I’d be willing to travel for.

LS swaps are cool and I’m no purist but I don’t think it’d be for me. If you ever do it though, make lots of posts on Oppo.

I think it would be cool to see a swap that cut some weight while maintaining close to the same power. If I’m reading things right MOtorworksracing is putting VW/Audi 1.8t engines in 944 cars that weigh 225 pounds while putting out 275hp. I think that would cut over 100 pounds from the stock 996 engine, and weight distribution would be more like 43/57. Although, then you’ve got a turbo VW engine in your car...

Also, duck tails really do wonders for these cars visually. So kudos for posting one with an aftermarket spoiler.

I like where you’re going with this. I like the idea of a four and pondered something like a Subie swap. Maybe then get some 912 badges made to pay homage. What surprised me about the LS swap was that the weights are very close.

I want the small car, rear engine driving experience with the maintenance schedule of a Silverado. My ultimate dreams are air cooled, but damn I could build a fun 996 for a fraction of the money.
